Elegy for 1992

Brent Miller A hauntingly beautiful exploration of the piano preparations that the master John Cage himself used in his masterpiece Sonatas and Interludes. While Cage's work focuses on using the instrument as a percussion instrument to create rhythmic dance pieces, Ford's piece travels a sparse, timbre-driven trail that keeps the narrative tension high. Do yourself a solid; Turn off all your distractions and focus on letting Ford navigate the next half hour.

about

"Elegy for 1992" is a long-form prepared piano improvisation & dedication to John Cage that takes inspiration from his 1946-48 Sonatas and Interludes. Many of the preparations are directly taken from Cage's diagrams and figures. In addition, a reverb was added to the performance to acoustically simulate a concert hall.
