This piece was initially conceptualized mainly as a tribute not only to the more traditional long form noise music (which I often stray from) as well as early computer music. Specifically, the first album of YMO & the original Tron score. As someone who is not traditionally musically inclined the sequencer & bit/beep boop music has really appealed to me. Not only in terms of composition & sound, but also in a philosophical sense.

The sequencer/synthesizer/whatever computer instrument you may be using is accessible and allows the average music listener to connect to music. A true casual instrument! Like a recorder, but less juvenile. Music allows us to escape the pains of everyday living and until recently I never imagined truly having any musical ambition. But thanks to computer music and the noise genre I have found a way to keep myself satisfied enough to imagine a future. Musically and otherwise.

"Happily Humming in The Missle Fuzz'' is a reference to the constant horror that can cause any life to spiral out of control. And the unexpected nature in which that happens. All we have to keep us grounded is the music, art, & people that we love. Even if our doom is forever lingering overhead. In the same way music acts as an anchor through tough times I hope the synth & chiptune melodies act as a guide through the harsher elements of the piece. See you under the missile fuzz, where the records don’t break.

"Ruminant"
Improvised and recorded by Helena Ford

Echoes across time and space
Chambers of void
A Five and A Half-Minute Hallway.
Water Nights
Moonshaded frights
Sleep that haunts my halls
And I think..
Is night a tomb?
Must I wait for the effervescent rays of the sun to save me from this crypt?
Slumber is a welcome intruder,
But not one that visits often.
Night...
An anticipation
A yearning longing for what comes next
Is death a soothsayer?
Could rest be a fraud?
In her marvelous tapestry,
Evening, shrouded all in inky blackness
In the stillness, she appears
Bringing sandy deposits to my eyes
Among fraudulent rest, I toss and turn
Hopeful dreams and anxious nightmares be
In its depths, a solace to unwind
Is this my chance to turn and flee?
Erebus.
Asymptote.
